10/GUI -- Super Duper Multitouch

This project/concept appeals to me, but I have my reservations.

Multi-touch works until it starts making me interact in ways that feel unnatural to me. "Pinch/Pull" to zoom was a bit of a jump when I got my iPod Touch, but it makes sense intuitively.

I guess I can't decide if I could get past the constraints inherent in their system. I don't know if I like the idea of having my windows stacked like a deck to flip through, yet I don't mind the single-tasking interface of the iPod. Maybe it wouldn't be a big jump, but in my work, multiple windows allows me to get things done.

My current setup is dual monitor, and when I am coding, I typically have 3 windows open - my code editor (Notepad++), my web browser (Chrome), and an FTP client (FileZilla). I jump between screens quickly, and often will tile 2 windows on one monitor and place the browser on the second.

10/GUI would require a paradigm shift, but it could be interesting.

What say you?

LEGO Voltron

What child of the 80’s doesn’t remember these transforming cat robots of Voltron? Mark Sandlin of Fleebnork fame has created this iconic cartoon mecha in amazing detail. Not only did he faithfully recreate it. He also made it transformable. To get an idea on size, check out the minifig pilots on their individual cats.

Mark has many more detailed photos at his Flickr photostream including WIP (work in progress) shots showing how he toyed with the idea of using chrome for part of the legs.

He said that it took him 71 hours. That’s impressive considering its size and complexity. Great job Mark! :)
